1. Spend a day at the amusement park Liseberg

Liseberg, Scandinavias largest amusement park, lies in the middle of Gothenburg and more than three million visitors pass through the entrance, every year.

In addition to famous rides, such as Flumeride, Lisebergsbanan, the rollercoaster Balder, Rainbow and the bumper cars, you will find restaurants, touristshops – korrekt: souvenirshops    , toystores and kiosks. All to serve your needs throughtout an adventurous and fun day. Enjoy!

2. Take a stroll in Trädgården botanical garden

Just a short tramride from downtown Gothenburg, lies Trädgården (The Treeplace), Sweden’s largest botanical garden. In this beautiful oasis of more than twelve thousand different flowers and plants, you will find the main attraction, which is a beautiful one thousand square meter growing house filled with tropical and exotic palms.

3. … or jump on the Paddanboat and see Gothenburg from a different angle

Near by the Kungsportsplatsen, downtown Gothenburg, you can jump on the Paddanboat. The flat, open boat will take you through the canals while the guide onboard will give you both historical and useful info. A must do on a warm and sunny summer’s day.

 4. Masthugg, the church with the magnificent view

The Masthuggchurch, one of the Gothenburgs most famous attractions, is open from Monday to Friday. Go to the quarter Stigberget, Masthugg is placed on a hill, near by Storbackegatan. The church has a breathtaking oceanview, just one of those things that you can not miss!

5.    Hang out in the Hagaquarter

The Hagaquarter, Gothenburgs oldest labour area, is situated between the square Järn, the Hagachurch and the Skanssquare. In the early 1800’s, it was forbidden to build housing in wood, and the workers therefore had to set up their homes outside the citywall. Haga is now a beautiful quarter, from poor to riches, original wooden architecture with narrow pedestrian streets. Visit Haga for a glimpse of the past and to remember to sit down at one of the many coffeshops or restaurants this cozy quarter has to offer.

8. Gothenburg Opera House

9. Explore the art gallery

At the end of the Kungsport avenue, the pompous art galleri houses as much as five decades of art.

Treat a potential sore eye with artists such as Much, Carl Larsson, Picasso, Rembrandt and Chagall.

If you should get hungry, in between or after, the gourmetrestaurant Fond offers a wide range of Swedish good traditional fare.

10 Take part in the city’s very own International Film Festival

With 35 000 participants, this is the largest film festival of the Nordic countries. Approximately 450 motion pictures from more than 70 countries sets the standard for a film festival that also serves as an important venue for the Nordic film industry. Learn more.

11. Universum – a world of science and nature

8000 square meters, rainforest, nordic nature, a dedicated floor to science projects, indoor river fish, tropical birds, frogs and butterflies. Start at the nordic nature, finish in the rainforest. Choose whether to follow the indoorroute on your own or book a guide to make sure that you and your children get the most out of your visit at the national science museum of Sweden. If you’re not planning to go to amusement park Liseberg, at least pay Universum a visit. Highly recommended!

 

12. The Volvo museum

Just outside Gothenburg, you will find the Volvo museum. An exhibition where all Volvo products are on show, such as trucks, engines for air and sea and busses. See the range of passenger cars and how they have developed from 1927 until the 1990s. A must see for the one with passion for cars and engines!

13. Go lobsterfishing

From September 20th until April 30, the season of lobsterfishing is open in Sweden, meaning that it is legal according to Swedish law.

Lobsterfishing is an ancient Swedish tradition and several eventagencies in Gothenburg has ensured that you can participate in the delightful madness. Get on a lobstersafariboat and get to fish and taste your very own harvest surrounded by stunning, breathtaking Nordic nature.

 

14. Ullevi Stadium – concerts and great shows

 

Ullevi stadium is the largest scene for music and shows in Gothenburg. Robbie Williams was there, Bruce Springsteen was there, Roger Waters was there. And of course. Madonna was there. 15. Or be hip – on a music festival

 

Way Out West, en av Sveriges mest populære musikkfestivaler. Festivalen finner sted midt i Gøteborg byskog, Slottskogen og kombineres med klubbarrangementer i Stay Out West, kunstutstillinger og kino rundt om i byen. Festivalen er en ekstra grønn festival, serverer bare vegetarmat, og oppfordrer alle til å gå eller kjøre kollektivt til byparken. Billetter til festivalen slippes 14. februar og kan kjøpes her. Andre festivaler i byen er Metaltown, og som navnet tilsier er dette en festival for alle metalentusiater. 6.Go foodtasting in the Saulhall

Sett av tid og spis deg mett på matprøver i de over 40 butikkene på hvert av markedene.

17. Bli en ølkjenner på Ølrepublikken

 

Ølrepubliken er en perfekt blanding mellom pub og restaurant der fokuset ligger på kvalitetsøl og passende deilig mat. Stedet tilbyr et ølsortiment på hele 30 typer på fat og ytterligere 200 i kjølen. Dette er stedet for deg som elsker smaken av øl og som gjerne vil bruke kvelden på å trimme smaksløkene med nye friske øltyper.

18. Shop til you drop

 

Shoppingen i Gøteborg er en behagelig opplevelse! Byen byr på butikker som TopShop, Weekday, Cheep Monday, Monki, Acne Studio, Nudie og kjedebutikker som Zara, H&M, Mango og Bianco- og alt innenfor et lite område. I tillegg finner du det massive sentrene Norstan og Kompassen, samt den eksklusive Nordiska Kompaniet. Drar du til Gøteborg når kursen er god, kan du også spare inn en god del kroner. Når du er ferdig å shoppe, kan du ta deg et glass champange på den intime og hyggelige restauranten SoHo som ligger midt i hjertet av byen.

19. Hit the blackjack at Casino Cosmopol

 

Gøteborg Casino Cosmopol ligger ved Store Tullhuset ved Packhusplatsen, i et bygg som på 1800-tallet var sentrum for de over en millioner skadinavere som emigrerte til Amerika. På casinoet kan du velge mellom 42 spillbord og 324 spilleautomater, i tillegg til at det er en rekke valgmuligheter når det gjelder mat og drikke. 20. Gothenburg by night

 

Det er ingen grunn til å legge seg tidlig når du er i Gøteborg, byen byr nemlig på en rekke kule og hippe barer; MagnusMagnus (restauranten anbefalt ovenfor) har også en stor bar (med uteservering i bakhagen) med hyggelig stemning og bra musikk. På Ruby Bar som ligger i hovedgaten Avenyen kan du drikke klassike coctails i latin-amerkanske inspirerte omgivelser. her finner du også en uteterrasse med en nydelig utsikt over byen. Puta Madre har en atmosfære og stil som du ikke kan gå glipp av når du er i Gøteborg. Baren (som også serverer mexikansk mat) er med sitt gjennomførte konspet en hyllest til den mexikanske borellmamman fra 1918. Dra hit for en god drink eller rett og slett for å bli imponert av lokalet og interiøret.
